This multi-media information system addresses common forest health agents in B.C. for both conifers and hardwoods. This program has integrated and enhanced the contents of the joint BC Ministry of Forests/ Canadian Forest Service publication "Field Guide to Forest Damage in British Columbia" (Henigman, J. et al., 1999 joint publication No. 17 available through Crown Publications), the Establishment to Free-Growing Forest Practices Code Guidebooks, and Forest Health Forest Practices Code guidebooks.

The Tree Doctor has several key functions that take advantage of computer technology and make it more useful than a printed document:

PEST INFO
- provides information on Range & Hosts; Signs & Symptoms; Damage and Management Significance
- also provides a selection of images for each pest.

IDENTIFICATION
- provides a list of possible pests: given BGC subzone/ host tree/ tree age / signs and symptoms (use to identify unknown pests after survey);
- has a differentiate section to allow users to compare common and different signs and symptoms between two or more pests - used when the user wants to determine what most likely caused the damage.

HAZARD & RISK
- the 'hazard & risk' can be determined: given host subzone and pest

MANAGEMENT
- provides information on current operational management options available on the web from the BC MOF's Forest Practices Code Guidebooks

FREE GROWING
- provides the current forest health damage criteria used to assess the acceptability of trees during free growing surveys. It also cross-links the potential pests that may cause the damage and hosts that may be susceptible.

GLOSSARY
- provides a list of terms used for Forest Health in B.C. (as found in the publication PesTerms and the BC FPC Guidebooks) and their definitions
