*** usage.txt: 14. May 2001, Kevin Belanger, Programmer/Analyst, Timber Supply Branch, Ministry of Forests *** Changes in usage and input read ( from v3.0 to v4.0 and v4.1) ============================================================= Usage: fss4.1 [-u | -b] first run) use -u to read ".dat" files subsequent runs) use -b to restore state from binary file (faster) Re-run using -u after any modifications to the following files: adjacency.dat, axs.dat, class.dat, group.dat, landoaf.dat, neighbours.dat, oaf.dat, regen.dat, road.dat, transfer.dat, and vols.dat Re-run using -u after changing "Randomizer" options in config.dat Previous versions of FSSIM took a single command-line argument which specifies the "DataDirectory" of the "*.dat" input files. Version 4.0 of FSSIM introduced a new command-line argument which is a flag specifying whether to update (-u) the binary file from the "*.dat" files or to use the binary (-b) file from a previous run. Preliminary performance testing has shown a 3-4 times increase in input speed on binary runs. However, the initial run is requires twice the time to read text files and then write to a binary file, so versions 4.0/4.1 are most efficiently used when several runs are required and where the only modifications to input data occur in the following files: config.dat(*), param.dat, priority.dat, reports.dat, and targets.dat *Note: "Randomizer" options in config.dat are preserved across binary runs. Therefore, FSSIM must be re-run using -u if "Randomizer" is turned off/on, or if the "Ranomizer Seed" is changed.
