• Offical Road Closure – Restriction Notice, October 16, 2010
  • Project Background:

The Fort St. James - Mackenzie Connector is a joint Provincial and Federal capital infrastructure project (Infrastructure Stimulus Fund). An excellent opportunity to provide economic benefit to the two communities in the form of a long-term road link, it is also a unique and exciting venture for the Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands.

The Northern Interior Forest Region of the Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands is the sponsor of the project, and is ultimately responsible for its construction. The project will be overseen by a Project Steering Committee which includes Regional, District and Engineering Branch management. The Project Team which is comprised of professional, technical and clerical staff lead by a Project Manager (see Key Contacts List), also includes several smaller sub-groups focussing on the key tasks of the overall development.

This endeavour, for which the total capital budget is $10.75 million over two fiscal years, has the overall objective of upgrading the existing resource roads to a standard double-lane road, which can be safely utilized year-round between Mackenzie and Fort St. James.
