Using 5,000 sandbags(about eight truckloads of sand) staff from the Kalum Forest
District responded to a call for help. A house near the Skeena river was threatened by
flood water when the river overflowed in June so staff members from the district office,
the Terrace Forward Attack Base and the Kitimaat Unit Crew waded out to help. Working with
neighbors they spent all day building a sandbag wall around the house and setting up three
pumps to handle leakage. They worked until midnight and managed to save the house.
