Kamloops Region Mourns Loss

Richard Cook
Richard Cook at Kamloops - August 1992

After a valiant fight, Kamloops Region radio technician Richard Cook lost his battle with cancer on March 21, 2000.

Born in Prince Edward Island in 1947, Richard learned his trade in the Canadian Air Force and worked in the Prince Rupert region before transferring to Kamloops in 1985.

Richard was committed to his job and a key player in the development of the region’s radio communications system. He loved nothing better than to fly by helicopter to remote mountain top sites for equipment maintenance and repairs.

Richard was a team leader in the Transponder Project, to provide remote diagnostics for mountain top radio repeaters. And he was a key player in the development of the ministry’s radio communications system that is serving the needs of all field staff in the region today.

Richard will be missed….

The Cariboo Forest Region will hold the 28th Annual BCFS Provincial Golf Tournament Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, 2000 at the Williams Lake Golf and Country Club. The tournament provides an excellent opportunity for BCFS staff, retirees and their families to get together and have fun regardless of their golf skills.

Tee times will start at 8am both days and there will be a shotgun start for Sunday, September 10. Participants will have the option of entering in the regular Handicap system or the Calloway Handicap system (details will be in the registration forms). The organizing committee is planning some additional golf and non-golf events again this year.

The cost including the banquet, green fees, and prizes is $90 for two rounds of 18 holes, if paid before August 18, and $100 after that date; $70 for two rounds of nine holes, if paid before August 18, and $75 after that date. Extra banquet tickets are $18 each.

Registration packages will be arriving in FS offices in early August. To help with planning, please register as soon as possible. Registration is open to employees (past and present); retirees; and spouses, sons, daughters and guests of employees (see registration form for details).
