Organizers work to invigorate FS Bonspiel

Organizers in Kamloops are pulling out all the stops to make the 34th Annual Provincial Forest Service Bonspiel an event to remember.

"We’ve tried hard to find new ways to generate interest," said Bob Thrienen, the Kamloops Forest Region’s Revenue and Corporate Services Manager. "The bonspiel (scheduled for February 9-11, 2001) has a long and celebrated history but we need more teams to keep it healthy."

Bob wants people to know that the bonspiel is fun. It’s an event where all Forest Service staff from across the province, their spouses, significant others, or friends

can join in, meet new people and renew old acquaintances. But the serious curler, at whatever level, has not been left out. Winners are in for some fine prizes.

"We’ve changed the way we give out prizes to make it more equitable for teams in each of the four events." Prizes for each event winner (A, B, C, and D) will be of similar value. That way, everyone gets the chance to be rewarded well for their efforts, Bob said.

And, there’s a $100 cash award for the best-costumed team.

To help everyone get in the spirit, Friday night’s party will include music played by a DJ and dancing into the wee hours. Saturday night’s banquet, always a crowd-pleaser, will again test the most determined dieter. And after dinner—more dancing to great music.

The organizers are also considering holding a fashion show for both men and women, combined with a wine and cheese party. Other possibilities? Live entertainment, contests throughout the bonspiel and 50-50 draws.

Don’t miss out—please join us in Kamloops in February!
